第１水雷戦隊　「阿武隈」（あぶくま）

　プラスチックモデルキットとしては、今だ製品化されていない「阿武隈」を登場させます。当工場の「阿武隈」は、タミヤ製「鬼怒」「名取」「長良」のキットを利用して、セミスクラッチしました。

Now, enter ABUKUMA which plastic scale model is not still produced !!　My work of ABUKUMA is made (semi-scratched) using the same TAMIYA kit of KINU, NATORI, NAGARA.

　「阿武隈」は、昭和５年１０月の大演習中に僚艦「北上」と激突して、艦首部をひどく損傷しました。そのため、艦首復旧工事を契機にスプーンバウからS字バウに換装しています。5,500トン型軽巡の「球磨」型及び「長良」型の中では、ユニークで近代的な艦姿を見せていますから、識別は容易です。
　また昭和16年後半までに前部魚雷発射管室と発射管を撤去し、後部魚雷発射管を４連装として酸素魚雷対応にしました。さらに、後部甲板にあった機雷敷設軌条を撤去したとされています。
　「阿武隈」は開戦前に呉で臨戦準備作業を行い真珠湾に出撃しましたが、佐世保鎮守府所属ということなので、とりあえず外舷色は佐世保工廠色でＯＫだと思います。学研太平洋戦史シリーズ「軽巡球磨・長良･川内型」に、昭和１７年４月に佐世保工廠によって作図されたとみられる『艦内側面及び上甲板諸艦橋平面図』が掲載されていますので、この図面を忠実に再現すれば比較的容易にディテールアップを行うことが可能です。

ABUKUMA crashed with comrade vessel KITAKAMI during the large exercise in October, in Showa 5 and damaged bow department awfully. Therefore, it was changed from spoon bow to doubble curved bow by repair work. ABUKUMA became a finally unique and modern figure among the 5500t KUMA and NAGARA type light cruisers. So the distinction is easy.
Also removing the front torpedo room and tube and making the back torpedo tube as 4 cannons equipped by the second half in Showa 16, ABUKUMA corresponded to the oxygen torpedo. Furthermore, it is assumed that the mine construction rail of the back deck was removed at the same time.
ABUKUMA was performed the battle preparation work in Kure before outbreak of war and sortied toward Pearl Harbor.She was Sasebo naval district assignment. So, the color of her was maybe Sasebo arsenal color. There exist several official drawings which drawn by Sasebo Arsenal at the time of April Showa 17. So, you can do exact making on the basis of these drawings faithfully. These drawings are published to the book from GAKKEN which book is "The Pacific war series 32 KUMA･NAGARA・SENDAI type".

　やはりこのアングルからのショットが好きでして、他の5,500トン型が非常にクラシックなフォルムなのに比べ、シャープな船体がS字バウとあいまってかなり近代的な姿となっています。やっぱり、5,500トン型軽巡は素晴らしいですね。もっと人気が出て評価されてもいい艦艇達だと思います。
　このショットと同じ写真が、「海軍艦艇史２　巡洋艦」に『真珠湾X-１日』として載っています。

The shot that showed under is my favorite angle. The sharp hull and S character bow of ABUKUMA make an image of fairly modern figure in comparison with other 5,500t type ships. After all, the style of the light cruiser of 5500t type are very appearance good !!
Because the style is too much classic ( for example, the spoon bow form), there is not so popularity. I think we should evaluate them more.
The same photograph as under shot is published as "Pearl Harbor X-1day " in "The Naval Vessels history 2 Cruiser ".

　艦首と艦尾から接写してみました。デジカメの限界か撮影対象物が細長すぎるのか、艦艇の撮影の場合ピントを合わせるのに苦労します。

I tried to take a close-up photo from the bow and the stern. Whether the performance limit of digital camera exist or shooting object are too elongate, I usually have some difficulties to focus in the shooting of ship.

　なお、甲板上の設備の取りつけ状況につきましては、開戦直前にかなり変更があったことが考えられます。しかし学研本に掲載された『艦内側面及び上甲板諸艦橋平面図』を参考にするだけではこれらの全てを把握することは困難であり、今後の調査・研究が待たれます。
　また「海軍艦艇史２　巡洋艦」に載った『真珠湾X-１日』の写真を見る限り、魚雷発射口の形状もかなりの変化があったようですが、詳細はよくわかりません。
